Students recognized in the Students Thriving on Achievement and Responsibility (S.T.A.R) program certainly were shining at the annual breakfast on the morning of April 25.

The event featured a variety of speakers, from teachers and administrators to former student and Town Councilman. The goal of the breakfast is to recognize students who have received positive referrals for their “achievement and responsibility.”

Principal Tom Zimmer kicked off the event with a speech that served as a welcome and introduction of guests. Decatur’s own NJROTC then took over with a routine Presentation of the Colors. The Invocation was then handled by junior Jayden Alton.

Introducing the guest speaker of the breakfast was Assistant Principal Leland Green who gave way to Town Councilman Zack Tyndall, a 2008 Decatur graduate. Tyndall told the inspiring story of how he was bullied from his job as a paramedic, yet still managed to work and land on his feet at Salisbury business school. His message, that with perseverance and hard work anything is possible. “I walked the halls of Decatur 10 short years before you all did. Life is very hard, there will be days you want to give up, but promise me that you won’t give up.” encouraged Tyndall.

The event concluded with STAR committee members sharing their inspiritment for the young star students.

Students enjoy a delicious breakfast while taking part in the STAR Awards Ceremony.
