For Sports:
Last night the Decatur Girls Wrestling team dominated Colonel Richardson. The three seniors, Chaniah Bernier, Rachel Plata, and Azariyah Johnson got pins. Sophomore Irie Carmarck won by decision in the last seconds of her match after a long, hard battle. This win comes after the girls team won first place at the War on the Shore tournament.
The Boys’ Wrestling team also earned impressive victories in both of their matches, defeating Colonel Richardson by a score of 67 to 12 and Mardela by a score of 83 to 0. Notable contributors to the team’s success with two wins each were Kyle Wilson, Paulo Mena-Weber, Juan Hinojosa, Elijah Collick, Aaron August, Jake Saullo, Alex Reihl, Braydon Bell, Cole Muir, and Nate McDaniel. Way to go Hawks!
A huge Decatur congratulations goes out to the Stephen Decatur indoor track teams after their performance at last nights meet against all 16 Bayside Conference teams.
The girls team won first place with a huge team effort. Top scorers for the girls team were Lotus Wise winning both the 300m and 500m events as well as taking 2nd place in the 4×400 relay along with Brooke Warren, Lily Rados, and Evie Eggers. Eggers also took 4th place in the mile and helped to take 2nd place in the 4×800 along with Ellie Cheynet, Avery Webber, and Amber Marshall. Amber Marshall also took 2nd place in the 2 mile run and 7th in the mile. Avery Webber also came in 2nd place in the 800 m run and Rayna Esquivel took 6th place in the 55m hurdles. Finally the 4×200 team of Lily Rados, Madisyn Imschweiler, Saniyah Matthews, and Ellie Cheynet scored for Decatur with a 6th place finish. Way to go ladies and lets do it again next week at the Bayside Championship meet.
The boys team earned 2nd place in the meet losing only to Kent Island. Top scorers for the boys team were Collin Pennington winning both the 800m and the mile as well as taking 1st place in the 4×800 relay along with Xander Wakefield, Ethan Rhode, and Quinn Martin. Quinn Martin also came in 6th in the 500m as well as taking 5th place in the 4×400 along with Ethan Cowder, Alex Ward, and Jackson Hurst. Jackson Hurst also scored in the 4×200 m relay coming in 5th place along with Luis Carrasco, Eddie Quick, and Jackson Cheung. Jackson Cheung also took 7th place in the 55m dash and Eddie Quick came in 3rd in the 55m high hurdles. Xander Wakefield came in 2nd in the 800 m run with an amazing finish and freshman Carter Steffy took 3rd place in both the mile and 2 mile with impressive performances. Finally Mason Lyons scored for Decatur in the shot put earning 5th place. Great team effort guys and best of luck to you next week at the Bayside Championship meet.
