The Crayon Initiative reaches the shore
June 5, 2018
Key Club Division 5B Lieutenant Governor junior Dana Kim recently launched a campaign through Key Club known as The Crayon Initiative.
The Crayon Initiative is a non-profit organization that strives to recycle used crayons, which are non-biodegradable, and give the new product to children in need.
The crayons go to children’s hospitals nationally. The crayons are melted and remolded into shapes that are easier to grip by children in hospitals with disabilities.
The ability to generate art positively affects kids and gives them a creative outlet, especially while facing a possibly difficult situation. Thus far, the organization has collected nearly 17 million crayons and has donated to 86,550 patients.
Crayon collection boxes are located outside the front office and the English office from now until June 13. For more information, contact Dana Kim or go to thecrayoninitiative.org
