Stephen Decatur’s annual canned food drive, organized by the Student Government Association (SGA), came to an end on Nov. 16. After a full week of collecting and donating non-perishable items for Diakonia, over 2,000 pounds of food were raised! Each first period classroom worked hard to collect food, hoping to beat last year’s donations.

After totaling the number of cans collected, Ms. Matthews’ class was in first place for the class with the biggest overall donations, raising 256 pounds. There were also ten top classes based on pounds per student, which will be awarded with a movie. In first place Amy Fenzel-Mergott, second Thomas Hinkle, third Amy Matthews, fourth Kia Terlizzi, fifth Mary Hathaway, sixth Dawn Ebelein, seventh Sherryl Olsen, eighth Steven Deakyne, ninth Kurt Marx, and in tenth Jackie Harvey.

Both Ms. Matthews’ and Mrs. Fenzel-Mergott’s first period classes will also be awarded with donuts.

Congratulations to the winning classes and thank you for all donations!
