Today Celebrates: Clean out your Computer Day, Make a Friend Day, and National Inventors Day!

Lunch for today includes: Mickey’s Pizza, Sloppy Joe, Smiley Fries, Steamed California Blend Vegetables, Chilled Pears, and Milk.

This week will mark the 1st anniversary of the Parkland Shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people, including students and staff. As we take a moment to remember and reflect, we invite any and all students to assist Decatur with bringing awareness of school violence by partaking in Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Week. There will be a meeting in Mrs. K. Patrick’s room after school on Wednesday, February 13th. Help us create some fun activities while raising awareness and support. Please see Mrs. K. Patrick or Mr. Thompson for more details.

Thank you to all who have already signed up for the fabulous February Blood Drive which will happen in our gym on Friday February 22. We need fifty more sign-ups between 8:45 AM and 12:45 PM. See a Key Club member for a form. The best chance to be able to give during your first choice of time is to sign up early. Again, the first available donation time is 8:45 AM right now. Be a hero today and donate blood at the end of February.

Congratulations to the students who won Gold or Silver Medals for their photographs in Media Expo .Kim Kaufman won one gold and 3 silvers. Chris Kaufman won one gold. Jude Al-Hamad won two golds and 2 silvers. Jarrett Humphress won two golds and one silver. Morgan Echols won three silvers. Shelby Mays won one silver. Zehra Mirza won one gold and 2 silvers. And Rachel Peretz won one silver. Congratulations to Zehra Mirza for being chosen to win the Media Specialist Award for her continuous growth in photography. It’s February Decatur, and that means it’s that time of the year when we ask you to clean your book shelves. That’s right! The annual Book Drive is now in full swing. Breakfast will be provided to the first period class with the most book points. One qualifying book equals one point while one brand new book with receipt attached earns your class 5 points. Hurry, the Book Drive ends on Friday, March 1st! Please see Mrs. Terlizzi with any questions.

Calling all Creative Writers! Stephen Decatur is proud to announce the return of the Creative Writing Cafe! Each Thursday, the Creative Writing Cafe will meet in the DNN Studio offering you time, space, and resources to work on and strengthen your writing. Everyone is welcome to come and hang out. Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, February 14th, after school. Spend Valentine’s day with your true love, the love of story. Please see Mr. Thompson with any questions.

Calling all French fanatics! The Foreign Language Club is open for business! Come join us in Madame McCann’s room A127, every Thursday after school for French tutoring and MORE! All are welcome! If you have questions stop by and see Madame, A127.

Seniors! Please continue to bring a copy of any and all acceptance letters to Mr. Hall in guidance. Even if you are not going to that college still bring in the letters. This helps to acknowledge all the places you may go! Lastly, please continue to check Naviance for scholarships! They are opening daily!

Do you love film? Are you always being hushed by friends during a movie? If so, join the new Decatur Film Society and dive into the art of watching film. Our first interest meeting will take place TOMORROW, Tuesday, February 12th, in the DNN studio. Please see Mr. Thompson with any questions.

The Relay For Life Team will meet TODAY, Monday, February 11, in the DNN Studio. All current and any new members are encouraged to attend.

For Sports:

The wrestling team won the team state championship Saturday night. The wrestling team last won a state championship in 2008. The team did an incredible job defeating bel air in the semi finals by 2 points and Linganore in the finals by 1 point. Winning for the Seahawks were Shamar Baines, Jagger Clapsadle, Noah Reho, Kyle Elliott, Jhymir Blake, Lukas Layton, Micah Bourne, Dj Taylor, and Dakota Souder. Congrats to the SD wrestlers on there accomplishment.

There will be an interest meeting for all girls interested in playing softball this spring – Wednesday February 13th – right after school in room A170 – See Coach Kurtz if needed
