For the remainder of the school year, The Hawk will be posting two animals from the Worcester County Humane Society. Each week an adoptable dog and a cat will be featured with their biography. If interested in adopting a pet, the Worcester County Humane Society can be reached at 410-213-0146, or visit them at 12330 Eagles Nest Rd., Berlin, MD 21811.

Star is a strong nine-year-old girl. She has lived with the same owner for most of her life. She is an affectionate but strong-willed dog. Star does not have much experience with other dogs, so new interactions would need to be done carefully. Although she is a little older, she is still playful. Star would love a walking partner to help her lose weight.

Shirley is a sweet four-year-old girl. She is a little shy at first but is very affectionate. She came to the shelter with her tiny kitten, but her kitten unfortunately passed away. At the same time, the shelter had a pregnant cat who died from complications while giving birth to a single kitten. Shirley then became a surrogate mother to the orphaned kitten and is a good mom. Shirley would love a quiet home where she can be doted on, because she does not love having to live with so many other cats at the shelter.
