Congratulations to junior Chris Kaufman for being the 2019 spring Stock Market Game state champion. Concluding the ten-week game, the seventeen-year-old genius won $20,222. The game consists of 473 teams competing in the state of Maryland and are given hypothetical money in the amount of $100,000. With this money, they can invest in stocks, mutual funds, or ETFs that trade on the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, or the American Stock Exchange. The first-place winners are determined by the individuals with the largest earnings. Since the fall of 2007, business chairman Kurt Marx has led eight students to a state championship. During this time, there have also been 21 regional champions. Stephen Decatur students also had the chance to compete last fall resulting in two sophomore champions, Ian Ramnarain and Billy Fisher. The duo ended with a profit of $13,432.29. Kaufman looks forward to graduating high school early and attending Salisbury University where he will continue to invest competitively.
