Review: “IT: Chapter Two”

Marly Brooks, Staff Writer

The spooky new IT sequel will have you on the edge of your seat. After remaking the 1990 classic in 2017, the sequel IT: Chapter Two was recently released and it is chilling. The R-rated horror film premiered in theaters on Sept. 6. The remakebased off the book by Stephen King, is a well remade version of the book and the original movie.

After Pennywise the Clown was defeated by the group of kids known as the Losers’ Club in the first movie, the sequel is about his return 27 years later to terrify the town of Derry, Maine. When one of the original members of the group who still lives in Derry saw that others were being kidnapped and disappearing, he knew he had to get the rest of the group back together to take on Pennywise once again.

Bill Skarsgard, the actor who plays the character Pennywise, does an exceptional job at making the part as eerie as possible. The movie also stars some well-known actors such as Bill Hader, James McAvoy, and Isaiah Mustafa.

In the beginning of the film, it shows a couple being brutally beaten by a group of adults and then one being murdered by Pennywise the Clown. Later into the film one of the main characters Mikerealizes that Pennywise is back again. He then calls up the rest of his old friends to help. None of the members have seen each other in 27 years and throughout the movie they reconnect their friendships. While they are back in their hometown, they become haunted with more bad memories than good ones.

Rotten Tomatoes reviewed the film and gave it a 62% and said IT: Chapter Two proves bigger doesn’t always mean scarier for horror sequels, but a fine cast and faithful approach to the source material keep this follow-up afloat. Another source (IMDb) gave it a 7/10

The movie is a must watch and will have you left wondering if it really is the end of Pennywise or not.
