This weeks LGBTQ+ fact of the week, sponsored by Decatur’s GSA is: As of January 2023, the 118th U.S. Congress broke a record for lesbian, gay, and bisexual representation. Two senators and 11 members of the House of Representatives identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, according to a Pew Research Center analysis.

Congratulations to the Stephen Decatur Academic Team for taking first place in the Eastern shore academic invitational this past Friday at Wor-Wic community college. Decatur went undefeated at the tournament and brought home the first place trophy for the second time in the last three tournaments. Great job, guys!

Congratulations to the SDHS marching band for a great performance at Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Not only did the band brave the cold weather, but the marching band also took “best band” in Saturday’s event. Nice job and great work!

We have two upcoming college representative visits. West Chester University of Pennsylvania will be here TOMORROW, March 14, at 10:00, and Queens University of Charlotte will be visiting on Wednesday the 15th at 8:10. These are great opportunities for juniors to get a jump on the college application process and for seniors who are interested in these schools. Both visits are in the Guidance Office Conference room. The Seahawk Writing Center is hiring tutors. You can set your own schedule. We pay in service hour currency, earn up to 6 hours a week. An interest meeting and tutor training will take place Tuesday, March 14th. If you can’t make it on Tuesday, stop in to 1072B; write now!

Decatur Nation! Now is your chance to get some writing support. Every Tuesday through Thursday, writing tutoring will be available to students in Mrs. Tracy’s room, A-118, from 7:15 until 8:00 a.m. Be sure to bring your writing assignment, expectations, and or required rubrics. All academic writing will be targeted.

WANTED: NEHS MEMBERS! Do you love English? Do you like organizing and participating in SDHS community service events? National ENGLISH Honor Society may be for you! Applications for membership in NEHS are now available from any English teacher or use the QR code on signs around the school. All applications must be completed and handed in by March 24th by 3 pm.

NEHS is sponsoring the 10th annual Peggy Hevel Memorial Writing Competition. Entry forms are available at the media center or from any English teacher. CASH prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in short story and poetry. All entries are due by 3:00, Friday, March 24th

The Kids Against Animal Abuse and Testing club is running a a pet food drive in 5th period classes beginning TODAY, March 13th, and running until Thursday, March 23rd. Please bring in dry cat, dog, and rabbit food to your 5th period class. All food will be donated to Kenille’s Cupboard, Worcester County Humane Society, and Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue. The 5th period class that collects the most canned food will receive a pizza party!

Let the Stephen Decatur Cheerleaders Egg your House! You can surprise your neighbors or friends with some easter fun! The Decatur Cheerleaders will deliver candy filled eggs to your house! You can buy 25 eggs for $20 or 60 eggs for $45. You can choose to have your eggs delivered on your porch or scattered in the yard! The deadline to order is March 31. You will have to complete a Google Doc form, so please go to Ms. Johnson’s room C-129 if you have any questions. The Eggs will be delivered on April 7th!

Decatur Theatre would like to invite you to its Annual March Production. The Man Who Came to Dinner, a comedy in three acts by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will be running performances March 16th and 17th at 7:00 pm, and March 18th at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door or online at www.decaturtheatre.com. If there are any questions about tickets or the production, touch base with Mr. Cater in the Black Box Theatre. We look forward to seeing you there!

Decatur Film Society members, please remember to stop by Mr. Thompson’s room to pick up a permission slip to view TOMORROW’s movie. No permission slip means no viewing, so get it before you leave today!
