Thank you to all those who have dropped a poem into the Poetry Month bucket in the media center. Remember, if you poem is chosen, it will be read on the morning announcements and the author will receive a gift card to a local business. We will draw three more poems next week, so drop your poem into the bucket by next Wednesday for a chance to win. Our second winner this month is Faith Haddad, with her poem “Oneself can be quite lonely.”
When she looks in the mirror, she doesn’t see herself. – She may have friends, but none who help. Sure, she has family but can’t open up, – For they would judge and make something up. I do not know the girl, Neither does she. – For if they knew how lonely it can be. — Once she was not alone, – She had someone to hold. – But in the end, they all leave, – Like hose of leaves on a tree. – For when they leave, only the tree stays, – Bound to sway, and wither away. — For they may love her, But in the wrong way. – I am not the girl you see, – For only she is who you want her to be. – All you know is her life and what it should be. – If you could see how lonely oneself could be, – Maybe you’d understand the way I sway. – When my own leaves are gone, I am astray.
Thank you Faith for sharing! Please see Mr. Thompson at some point today to pick up your gift card prize!
