Rho Kappa History Honor Society is NOW accepting applications for new members. In order to be eligible, you must have successfully completed an AP Social Studies Course and have a 3.5 GPA. Attention students working toward the Presidential Service Award this year: Please double check your tracking form to make sure it has the correct number of hours for each level. Bronze is 100 to 174 hours, Silver is 175 to 249 hours, and Gold is 250 plus hours. Forms for this year have gone out with incorrect information. Please see Mrs. Thompson in room A168 with any questions or to pick up a corrected form.
College representative visit season is here! TOMORROW at 9:30 Gettysburg College will be in the guidance Office and UMD College Park will be in the cafeteria at 1:30. Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to sign up for these visits. You can find these and future visits in Schoolinks. Stop by Guidance if you have questions.
If you are a senior and interested in government, politics, and or are passionate about public issues, then you might want to consider applying to serve as a Maryland page. See Mrs. Berquist for an application. Applications are due by Friday, September 20th at 3:00 PM.
Homecoming Week and all its fun evening events are right around the corner! Kicking off Homecoming Week on Monday is Smish Smosh, the annual lip sync competition, talent show, and game night! Teams from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes will be representing their grades, engaging in exhibitions of talent, relay racing, and yes, lip-synching. This year’s lip-synch theme? Y2K- Remixed! That means billboard hits from the 2000s remixed for the club! Tickets are $5. Come on out Monday, October 7th at 6:00 pm to the Auditorium for a little Smish Smosh, and let’s get this Homecoming party started!
For any questions about participating in Smish Smosh as a talent act, or lip synch group, and for rules and technical issues, please speak to Mr. Cater in the Black Box, room B1020. Sign up sheets will be posted on his doors.
For Sports:
There will be an open gym for basketball TODAY. The open gym will start at 5:30 and will run until 7:00 pm. You must leave the school and return 10 minutes before Open Gym. All are welcome and the fee is $2.00.
If you are interested in trying out for Girls Basketball, the weight room is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 until 4:00 pm. All are welcome.
Congratulations to our JV and Varsity Volleyball teams for dominating against WiHi last night. JV was led by sophomores Amari Purnell and Becca Kemp. Amari had an amazing 10 aces and 2 kills. Becca ended the night with 2 aces and 9 assists. Julia Knerr, Brooke Berquist and Kirby Bounds were the stars of the varsity game. Julia had five aces and three kills. Brooke had 3 kills and Kirby had 6 aces and 3 assists. Thank you to everyone that came out to support our team and the Walsh family. Just through donations we were able to raise over $600 for Tyler’s family. Tyler strong, Decatur strong, stronger together.
