Decatur Nation! Mrs. Moore has extra tickets for the Broadway Production of Hadestown that is taking place at the Ocean City Convention Center on Wednesday, March 4th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available to both students AND staff and are only 66 dollars each. Any student or staff member interested in purchasing a ticket, please see Mrs. Stokely, Mrs. Moore’s long-term substitute, in room G-8 for information.
We are excited to host our second annual Pickleball tournament! Proceeds will benefit our school’s Morgan’s Message chapter, supporting our ongoing efforts to raise awareness about mental health in athletics and beyond. Teams can register for a chance to earn a spot on the tournament winner’s plaque. Players of all skill levels are welcome, and non-players are encouraged to attend, watch, and enjoy the event.
The tournament is on March 18th from 6:00 till 9:00 pm in our school gymnasium. Registration fee to compete is $10 per player. See a Morgan’s Message member, Mrs. Owens in A-8 or Mrs. Shirk in guidance to register and pay. You can also scan the QR code on the event flyer located on the What’s Up Decatur bulletin boards around the school.
If you have recently been added to the Mu Alpha Theta applicants’ Schoology account, please make sure you have checked your Schoology messages. You have received an important message about the application process. If you have any further questions, please see Mrs. Candeloro or Mr. Greenwood. Additionally, if you have any questions about your eligibility, please see Mrs. Candeloro in room H-2 or Mr. Greenwood in room H-8 during fifth block or after school. DO NOT COME during other times.
There will be a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting this Thursday and every Thursday until spring break. Meetings are at 7:15 in room C-15. All are welcome.
For Sports:
A huge congratulations goes out to the Stephen Decatur Boy’s and girl’s Swim Team for taking first place in the Maryland 3A/2A/1A Regional Championship on Saturday. Our girl’s team sunk the competition with 392 points and the boy’s team swam to victory with 363 points.
Swimmers taking first place in their events for the boy’s team included; Vincent Schicchi in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, Ewan Betz in the 200 Individual Medley, Jacob Demarest in the 50 free, Parker Gill in the 100 Butterfly, and Luke Riser, Ewan Betz, Vincent Schicchi, and Jacob Demarest in the 200 Free Relay.
For the girl’s team, swimmers taking first place in their events were: Kendall Bagley in the 200 free and 500 free, Kate Wanner in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke, Karis Bagley in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke, Karis Bagley, Kate Wanner, Kendall Bagley, and Macie Groves took first in the 200 Medley Relay and set a new SDHS record time, and Finley Helfrich, Zoe David, Kendall Bagley, and Karis Bagley took first in the 400 Free Relay.
Congratulations to these swimmers as well as Ben Stallings, Ilya Karcheuski, Jake Harner, Taj Dorn, Evelyn Eade, Alice Brailko, Lily Sperry, and Elliott Mills for an outstanding performance and all will be traveling to the State Championship on Saturday at the University of Maryland.
