Last evening, Decatur’s Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, math honor society, inducted 24 students. Mu Alpha Theta is an organization dedicated to promoting scholarship in mathematics and establishing math as an integral part of education. Congratulations to the newest members of Mu Alpha Theta!
Next week is Earth Week sponsored by the SDHS Surfrider Club. Each day will have a different theme to get everyone thinking about small, everyday ways that they can help the Earth. Please join us on “Meatless Monday” by packing a vegetarian lunch.
To all students who received invitations to volunteer for the OCES field day…you need to turn in your form directly to Mrs. Bunting in the PE department ASAP. There are only a handful of spots left! First to turn it in gets the spot!!!!

Seniors! It’s that time of year for DNN to begin collecting senior quotes for the yearbook and baby/toddler photos for the graduation pre-show video. You ALL have been enrolled in the DNN Senior News Course and information has been shared with you all.
Each photographed student is permitted a senior quote which will appear beneath your portrait in the yearbook. Quotes MUST be submitted using the QR code or url link on the flyers. NO quotes will be accepted via schoology or personal email. The form will close on Friday, May 15th at 3:00 pm, so don’t miss the submission window!
Each students is permitted to submit ONE baby/Toddler photo for the video. Photos should be emailed to [email protected] and please make sure you include the students’ first AND last name in the subject line. If we don’t know who’s photo it is, we will not include it in the video. Hard copies of photos can be brought to the DNN Studio, room F-1 to be scanned and returned. All photos MUST be emailed or handed in by 3:00 pm on Friday, May 15th. If you have any questions before May 15th, please see Mr. Thompson.
The Worcester County Fair is seeking enthusiastic youth to serve as Fair Ambassadors for the 2026 Worcester County Fair. Applicants must be students in grades 9 through 12 and residents of Worcester County. To be considered, applicants should submit a short, one page essay, responding to the following prompts: Why is a county fair important to a community? What is your favorite part of the Worcester County Fair? What would you say to someone you’ve just met to encourage them to attend the Fair?
Essays will be reviewed and the top ten applicants will be invited for interviews. Selected Ambassadors will represent the Fair and help promote this beloved community event! Essays must be submitted no later than Monday, April 20th. Email submissions to [email protected]
Attention students: There are still quite a few students who have not picked up your WeXL invitations. Please stop by guidance to pick them up. Even if you plan not to attend, at least please stop by to pick up your invitation. One way or the other, we will still make sure you are handed the invitation. Please help us and come get your invitation. Check the posted list to look for your name. For those of you who plan to attend, return the RSVP card and any money to the guidance office ASAP. You cannot attend if you do not turn in the RSVP card. Please come to guidance if you have any questions.

(QR BANNER) While we continue to wait for the lineup to drop for Country’s Calling, we do have the line up for Oceans Calling, and we want to know your thoughts! We have two polls going with the QR codes on your screen, please scan, answer, and submit! The QR codes are also posted on the bulletin boards around school! These results will be published in the next issue of the Hawk Newsletter.
Tired of sleeping on a rock? Time to get a new mattress! The Instrumental Music classes will be selling mattresses at the school this Sunday, April 19th, from 10am to 5pm. Decatur Nation! It’s Rally For Hope 2026! Relay For Life of Worcester County is holding our big community event TOMORROW, April 18th from 3:00 until 8:00 at the Worcester County Recreation Center. It’s free and open to the public! It’s time to celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer as There is No Place Like Hope!
