Marie Stevenson was named Jan. 12 as Stephen Decatur High School’s Teacher of the Year for 2023-24.
Stevenson is a British Literature instructor here at Decatur, where she serves as co-chair of the English department, and advises the Leo Club.
She also serves on the school improvement team and is an Apple Vanguard teacher.
Stevenson has 25 years classroom experience, including 12 years here at Decatur. Before taking on Brit Lit, she also taught Yearbook, Comm Arts, and Introduction to Publications courses.
“I’m honored, since there are so many fantastic teachers at Decatur,” she told The Hawk.
She’ll next compete for the county-wide Teacher of the Year honor, the winner of which will be announced in April.
The last time an SDHS teacher took home the county-wide award was Kristina Cosgrove in 2016.
