Lunch for today includes: Big Daddy’s Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza, Fish Sandwich, Oven Baked Crinkle Fries, Steamed Green Beans, Fresh Fruit, Mixed Fruit, and Milk.

NEHS would like to thank all those who came out last night for the second annual indoor trunk or treat! We had some amazing groups with some incredible displays! While everyone was a winner in our books, the community did vote for the most “Boo-tiful” site, and we will announce the winner on Tuesday, during our Halloween show!

Decatur Nation! Ready to show some school spirit? Join the Students Against Destructive Decisions these next few days to show your support. Today is wear red day, representing how red-y we are to say no to drugs. Celebrate Halloween by dressing in your best school-friendly costume to scare off drugs! Wednesday will be the last day to let your spirit shine! Grab a friend and dress up for twin day to show off your drug free duo!

The next SADD meeting will take place on Thursday, November 9th in SeƱora Cassino’s room, A126. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend!

Attention After School Participants! This is a friendly reminder that all after school academy programs are canceled for next Tuesday, Halloween night.

Hey Seahawks! It’s that time again! All the amazing books and trusty hotspots you’ve borrowed are due back by November 1st. If you’ve finished your literary adventures or online quests, drop them off at the library and share the magic with someone else! Still captivated by your current read or need that hotspot for more virtual journeys? No worries! Swing by and renew your items to keep the adventure alive. Let’s keep the shelves buzzing and the hotspots humming! Your next adventure awaits! Happy Reading and Exploring!

Friendly reminder that picture day is coming! On Monday, October 30th, Lifetouch will be at school to take photos of all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Even if you do not plan on ordering photos, you will still need to sit for a picture for the yearbook.

The UMES Annual Tri-County College Fair will be held on Thursday, November 2nd. The Bus will depart at 9:30 and we will return by 2:00 p.m. You must stop by guidance to pick up a permission slip. The cost of the trip is $10 and is due by Tuesday October 31st, when you turn your permission slip in. The money is for lunch in UMES cafeteria. Check Schoology to see the flyer. The first 40 students that turn in your permission slip with money will be permitted to go!

The Key Club will be holding its first blood drive event on Friday, November 10th from 8:00 until 1:30. Students aged 16 and older are allowed to donate this year. If you are 16, you will need a signed parent permission slip. Please see Mrs. Saullo or Mrs. Kalchthaler for a permission slip. Signs with QR codes are located around the building to register.

Any student planning on taking an AP Exam independently of a course taught here or at Worcester Tech needs to see Mrs. Wells in the Curriculum Office before November 1st.

This is a friendly reminder that due to picture day on Monday, there will be NO morning announcements. We will resume our broadcast on Tuesday, with our Halloween show!

For Sports:

A BIG Decatur congratulations goes out to both the girls and boys cross country teams for an amazing performance Wednesday! The teams brought home 2 trophies from the 2023 Bayside meet in Cambridge where they battled 16 teams in the Bayside Conference.

The girls team are your 2023 Bayside Champions with a score of 41! The girls team was able to knock out Kent Island by 33 points, securing a 1st place finish. Individual medal winners for the girls include Macy Woroniecki in 2nd place followed by Amber Marshall in 5th place, Avery Weber in 12th place, and Evie Eggers in 14th place. Also running on the varsity team was Ally Fernandez, Navaeh Horton, and Sage Hall. Way to go ladies. Now its time to set your eyes on regionals and a chance to advance to the 3A state meet!!

The boys team won 2nd place as a team with a score of 88 losing only to Kent Island who had a score of 70. Individual medal winners for the boys include Braydon Bell in 8th place and Trey Rill in 12th place. Also running on the varsity team was Quinn Martin, Todd Haley, Connor Smith, Graham Field, and Ethan Justice. Great team effort guys but there is still work to be done as our boys team also has a chance to advance to the 3A state meet.

Congratulations to the varsity field hockey team for their outstanding performance last night defeating Easton 2 to 0 in the Regional Semifinal. Goals by Ryleigh Smith and Emily Ferguson. Assists by Avari Shoff and Morgan Michalski. Bailey Griffin and Jill Burton both had stand out defensive performances! They will not play on the Regional Championship on Tuesday at Parkside.

In a heart-pounding match that had spectators on the edge of their seats, Decatur volleyball secured a stunning victory against Bennett last night. The team demonstrated unmatched grit, skill, and teamwork to secure this hard-fought triumph. The night started off with JV fighting through three sets to take the win. Kirby Bounds and Becca Kemp led the team with amazing serves and impressive sets. Hayden Esworthy and Hailey Lewis patrolled the back row and ensured nothing hit the floor. It was an amazing team effort that resulted in a win in the JV’s final match of the season.

Next up, varsity took to the court. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions for both the players and their passionate fans. Decatur and Bennett were evenly matched, resulting in a thrilling five-set showdown. Both teams traded off points and games to take the battle to a fifth set. The tension in the arena was palpable as the final set unfolded.

In the fifth set, the Decatur showed their mettle, displaying outstanding defensive plays and powerful attacks. With unwavering determination and a strong team spirit, they secured the match with a thrilling 15-7 victory in the final set. A few of the standouts of the evening were Zoe Hinkle with 13 kills and 7 digs, Julia Knerr with 5 blocks and several pivotal serves, Brooke Berquist with a some of the best serves and coverage of the night and 15 assists, Sydnie Harrington with 7 kills, 9 digs and 17 assists. Defensive player of the night goes to Fay Predmore for her 4 aces, 5 kills, 3 assists and 20 digs. Offensive player of the night goes to Alice Bickel for her 5 aces in 26 serves and 10 kills in 30 hits.

Coach Patrick expressed her pride in the team’s performance, saying, “This was a true test of our team’s character, and they rose to the occasion. It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication.”
