Listen up Seahawks! This Saturday, at 9:00 a.m., Decatur will be hosting Lakelyn’s Royal Relay, a royalty-themed color run/walk 5K! We are encouraging all students, staff, and community members to sign up and participate. Dress up in your royal prince and princess attire to get color blasted! This event is held in honor of our 2022 Homecoming Princess, Lakelyn Draheim, a brave little girl who touched countless lives. Lakelyn was diagnosed at just four years old with DIPG, an aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer in 2022 before passing away in January of 2023.
Lakelyn’s spirit continues to shine through the efforts of her family, who started the “Lakelyn’s Light” chapter of The Cure Starts Now to fund research for a cure for DIPG and other childhood cancers. By participating, you can show your support to help turn Lakelyn’s light into a cure for other children. Please see the flyers posted around the school, or visit Mr. Draheim in the math department for more information and sign-up details. Let’s rally together, Seahawks, for an incredible cause this Saturday!
