The LGBTQ Fact of the Week is: Decatur has an active GSA group that meets during After School Academy on Wednesday afternoons. What is GSA, you ask? GSA is a next-generation LGBTQ+ racial and gender justice club that creates space for support, organizing, and community building so that trans and queer youth have what they need to stay in school, become leaders who can advocate for themselves and their needs, and collaborate with other youth and community groups to fight for racial and gender justice. The SDHS GSA wishes you a successful second semester!

Spinebreakers, we will be discussing the ending of our book “Feed” today as well as selecting a new book to read from the Historical Fiction genre! Make sure you bring your iPad to the discussion. If you are already a part of book club a list of possible options was posted to schoology, but if you’d like to join, and help pick the next book, there’s never been a better time to join! Come by the library at the end of the day today or see Mrs. Terlizzi, Mr. Thompson, or Mr. vonRigler for details.

Teachers and students don’t forget to sign up for the Black History Month event taking place this Wednesday. The list of speakers is available in your email and the Media Center. Support our community members as they speak and read poetry, share philosophical ideas, build connections through history, and more!

The Decatur Film Society will meet tomorrow to discuss the film Bolt. Discussion will begin at 3:00 with voting for our next film taking place after the discussion. We are open to all students who love cinematography and film. Sign up through the After School Academy and join us in the DNN studio. See Mr. Thompson with any questions.

For Sports:

A huge congratulations goes out to the Varsity Wrestling team as they won their 4th straight state championship on Saturday. The Seahawks were trailing in the semifinals 4 to 18 through the first 5 matches but stormed back to win 33 to 25 over a very tough Middletown team. In the finals they dismantled the number one seed Sparrows Point, 49 to 18, bringing the 2A state title back home to Decatur. Go Hawks!

Remember to base your decisions on the Decatur Way principles. Pride, Achievement, Respect, and Responsibility. Have a Magnificent Monday Decatur!
