The Stephen Decatur High School band headed to Hawaii last week to march in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on December 7. Every year, 10 to14 high school and college bands from around the U.S. are selected to play at the event held on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki, Hawaii.
On December 7th 1941, Japanese planes attacked the U.S. Navy Base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. It was a catastrophic attack that led to the deaths of over 2,400 Americans and ultimately to the United States entering World War II.
The parade honors the brave Americans who fought and died at Pearl Harbor. The Marching Seahawks had to cancel playing in the local holiday parades to make it to Hawaii, as the trip conflicts with them. The band departed for Hawaii on December 4th and returned on December 9th.

A full recap of the trip, with photos, will be published in the January issue of The Hawk.
