Stephen Decatur High School has done many spectacular things for the local community over the past 71 years. From cleaning up the beaches that locals and visitors hold dear to their hearts, to helping the unfortunate who need it the most, “Decatur Nation” has always stepped up to the plate and provided for the community.
During the month of February, Students Against Destructive Decisions, (SADD) held their second annual “Warm Wishes” Drive. A drive that was developed after Regine “Gigi” Sallah, SADD President, learned about a fellow classmate who was homeless. “I wanted to make sure that him and others, who were homeless, were going to be warm,” Sallah reflected. This year’s drive benefited the Atlantic Club in West Ocean City, a non-profit organization that helps individuals and their families recover from the disease of addiction, who asked specifically for toiletry items. “As a community partner,” Sallah adds, “the Atlantic Club provides an annual scholarship to a Decatur student, whose life has been impacted by drug or alcohol abuse.”
This year, the SDHS community collected two boxes full of needed items to help spread warmth and comfort to those who need it the most. “It’s important to give back to our community,” Sallah commented, “SADD is committed to helping students abstain from destructive decisions, including but not limited to, the use of drugs and alcohol.”
